Telangana to launch re-survey of Nizam-era maps in five villages on pilot basis: Minister Ponguleti

Hyderabad, May 18 (UNI) In a major step toward resolving long-pending land disputes, Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Sunday announced that the state government will initiate a comprehensive re-survey in five villages on an experimental basis, aiming to replace outdated Nizam-era maps with modern land records.
Speaking to the media here, the Minister stated that there are 413 villages across the state that either lack proper land surveys or still rely on archaic records dating back to the Nizam period.
He criticised the previous BRS government for failing to address the issue over the past decade.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the current Indiramma government has decided to tackle the issue through a pilot re-survey programme. Based on the outcomes and feedback from this pilot, the initiative will be expanded to cover the remaining 408 villages.
The Minister said that as part of the programme, a comprehensive survey will be conducted using modern technology through aerial/drone survey methods and ground truthing. These methods will help generate geo-referenced cadastral maps and property rights documentation. The objective is to enhance land information accuracy, ensure transparency, reduce disputes, and bring clarity to land ownership, which will ultimately benefit farmers and rural landowners.
Ponguleti added that survey firms with proven experience—such as RV Associates, Marvel Geo Spatial, IIC Technologies, Neo Geo, and Drogo Drone—have been selected to carry out the work in the pilot villages. He emphasised that the government is committed to resolving land issues permanently and will rely on advanced technology and modern practices to do so.
