Third accused arrested in woman's alleged abduction, gang-rape case in Yamunanagar

Yamunanagar, Oct 18 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested a third accused in a case involving the alleged abduction and gang rape of a married woman who had initially told investigators that she had voluntarily left home with a male friend, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, Pankaj Saini, a resident of Sukheri village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, was produced before a court and remanded to two days' police custody, a police official said.
Two other accused, Harsh Saini and Aryan Saini, had already been arrested in the case being investigated by Gandhi Nagar police station under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal.
Station House Officer Vishal said the investigation began after the woman's husband reported that she had gone missing from home along with their three-month-old child.
A case was registered, and Sub-Inspector Meena traced the woman and her child to Gangoh in Uttar Pradesh, where she was found with Harsh Saini.
Police said the woman initially stated that she had accompanied Harsh voluntarily. She and her child were subsequently handed over to her family.
However, the woman later filed another complaint, alleging that Harsh had taken her in a car along with his associates, including Aryan, and established sexual relations with her on the false promise of marriage.
She further alleged that Harsh's associates had also sexually assaulted her.
Following the fresh allegations, police added relevant penal provisions to the case originally registered in connection with her disappearance.
Investigators subsequently arrested Harsh and Aryan, while further investigation led to Pankaj's arrest for his alleged involvement in the incident.
Police said Pankaj had been taken on two days' remand for questioning and further investigation.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the guilt of the arrested accused has not been established by a court.
