TMC symbol, name fight: BJP reminds Rahul both NCP, TMC split from Congress

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) The BJP on Friday slammed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for his comments concerning the Election Commission’s interim order freezing the name and symbol of Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
Responding to Gandhi’s accusation that the BJP and the Election Commission were collaborating to divide opposition parties, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi reminded him that parties such as the TMC and the NCP were formed by breaking away from the Congress.
“Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who is perpetually restless, has so far been perceived as someone who knows nothing about the country, society, culture or religion. But today, he made a remarkable tweet. It seems he does not even know much about his own party either. While accusing the BJP, he does not realise which parties he is referring to. He tweeted, ‘First Shiv Sena, then NCP and now Trinamool Congress,’ accusing the BJP of eliminating these parties.
“ Rahul Gandhi, can you not even read enough to know that NCP stands for Nationalist Congress Party and broke away from Congress? The name Trinamool Congress itself contains Congress. Sharad Pawar separated from the Congress Party in 1999 over the issue of leadership of foreign origin. But the heir of foreign origin, Rahul Gandhi ji does not even know the roots of his own party,” he said
Gandhi had condemned the BJP and the ECI following the interim order to freeze the now-split party’s name and the iconic ‘jora phool’ (twin-flower) symbol, “First Shiv Sena, then NCP, and now Trinamool Congress. Every time, the same pattern—BJP and the Election Commission join forces to split a party. Then its election symbol is snatched away. When an entire party can be stolen, it’s hardly surprising that the votes of millions of Indians can be stolen too. Vote theft. Government theft. Now party theft—these have become symbols of our democratic decline.” Gandhi said in a post on X.
