Traffic moves at snail’s pace during diversions, restricitons in Lutyens Delhi amid opposition’s protest march

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Important roads across Lutyens Delhi on Tuesday witnessed crawling traffic amid route diversions, barricading and security restrictions, as the I.N.D.I.A bloc's protest march towards the Election Commission office got underway.
Motorists had to face bumper to bumper traffic, be it area around Ashoka Road, Connaught Place to Parliament Street, and Jantar Mantar, as traffic moved at a snail’s pace at several stretches. Motorists struggled, trying out different routes, ending up increasing travel time to their destinations, and work with long queues forming at imporatnt various intersections.
Many of the motorists, especially in four wheelers said they were stuck for long, while bikers also struggled amid heavy traffic. Traffic cops were deployed, who tried to keep the traffic moving, However, things became stressfull during the peak hours.
Earlier, traffic police had advised that in view of special traffic arrangements across New Delhi District, movement will be regulated, diverted starting 0800 hrs at around the Connaught Place- Patel Chowk- Parliament Street, Windsor Place, GPO and the adjoining areas. Traffic police had suggested to avoid unnecessary travel through affected areas, and to avoid parking, stopping near the restricted areas.
Traffic around Gol Market area was also affected, while ongoing civil works made things even more difficult due to the diversions that were already in place near Bhai Veer Singh Marg. Traffic personnel remain deployed at critical points to manage diversions and ease congestion, with normal movement being restored progressively after the completion of the movements, police said.
The traffic restrictions came as INDIA bloc opposition MPs marched towards the EC headquarters, with heavy security and barricading deployed around Parliament and the poll panel's office ahead of the protest.
Meanwhile, a high drama unfolded amid the march, as the Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and others along with MPs and their supporters, tried heading towards Poll panel’s main office. They were not allowed to move forward. UNI APS CDS
