Trafficked woman suffers burns in Malaysia, NORKA arranges Air Ambulance for her return

Thiruvananthapuram, May 19 (UNI) NORKA, a Department of the Kerala Government to redress the grievances of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs), has arranged an Air Ambulance to bring back Mini Bhargavan (54), who was seriously burned while working as a domestic worker after being trafficked to Malaysia.
She will be brought to Kochi from Kuala Lumpur on the night of May 22 in a special air ambulance of Malaysian Airlines.
She was admitted to the Penang General Hospital in Malaysia on March 7 after suffering burns at the house where she worked, but her employer did not inform her relatives.
Her health condition deteriorated further as her lung infection and kidney problems worsened during treatment. The family contacted the Loka Kerala Sabha Secretariat after Mini could not be contacted continuously over the phone.
The information was then passed on to the representatives of the Loka Kerala Sabha in Malaysia. The shocking information about Mini, who had suffered serious burns to about 26 percent of her body and has been unconscious for more than two months without the help of a ventilator, was revealed to the outside world through the preliminary investigation of Loka Kerala Sabha member and social activist Atmeshan Pachat.
There are reports that Mini is among the 42 women, including Mini's sister, who were trafficked to Malaysia on a visit visa as domestic workers under the pretext of granting work visas.
NORKA made arrangements at the Ernakulam Medical College Hospital for further treatment. This is the first time that a Malayali expatriate who is a victim of human trafficking has been brought home using an air ambulance.
