Tripura police seek custody of female drug peddler

Agartala, June 24 (UNI) Tripura police on Tuesday forwarded a female drug peddler to court seeking her custody of a female drug peddler who was arrested at Agartala Railway Station a day ago in a joint operation of Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Police said the lady was identified as Miss Aparna Debbarma (29), a resident of Karaimura under Amtali Police Station of Agartala had boarded a train to Delhi. She was found in possession of 21.490 kilograms of dry cannabis worth Rs 7.5 lakh, packed in nine separate packets concealed inside a trolley bag.
During interrogation, Aparna admitted that she intended to transport the contraband to Delhi, and also confessed that this was not her first attempt; she had previously smuggled smaller quantities of cannabis using other railway stations, but this was her first time using Agartala Station, where she was eventually apprehended.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against her at the Agartala GRP Police Station. Investigating officers believe that more arrests may follow as part of the ongoing probe into the drug trafficking network.
