Washington, June 30 (UNI) The Donald Trump administration is considering revoking the US visa of British rap duo Bob Vylan over the anti-semitic remarks made by the group during its concert in Glastonbury, where they chanted anti-Israel slogans, reports Daily Wire.
A senior State Department official told the news agency that it is “already looking at revocation” of their visas.
At the music festival, Irish rap group Kneecap, also performed and chanted “free Palestine,” being embroiled in controversy supporting Hezbollah—including one member who was charged under the Terrorism Act for allegedly waving a Hezbollah flag at a concert in London last November.
British punk-rock and hip-hop duo is planning to perform in 20 major cities across the U.S including Washington after a controversial performance at the Glastonbury Festival in England over the weekend.
“As a reminder, under the Trump Administration, the U.S. government will not issue visas to any foreigner who supports terrorists,” Daily Wire quoted the senior official as saying.
The Republican Party has also called for a ban on the group, with US lawyer and party member Leo Terell, who also chairs the Justice Department’s task force to combat anti-Semitism, lashing out against its vitriolic statements.
“These abhorrent chants, which included calls for the death of members of the Israeli Defence Forces, are abhorrent and have no place in any civil society,” he posted on X.
“We understand that Mr. Vylan is planning to travel to the United States as part of the Inertia Tour. In response, Mr. Terrell’s Task Force will be reaching out to the U.S. Department of State on Monday to determine what measures are available to address the situation and to prevent the promotion of violent antisemitic rhetoric in the United States.”
US Senator Ted Cruz (Texas) shared a video of the incident on X, and commented: “Truly sick. Thousands of people screaming ‘Death to the IDF.’ This is the base of the Democrat Party.”
Meanwhile, the United States Department of Justice in February announced the formation of a task force to combat antisemitism on college campuses.
The task force's first priority is “Anti-Semitism in any environment is repugnant to this Nation’s ideals,” said Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Leo Terrell, who will be heading the Task Force.
“The Department takes seriously our responsibility to eradicate this hatred wherever it is found. The Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism is the first step in giving life to President Trump’s renewed commitment to ending anti-Semitism in our schools.” UNI ANV AAB SSP
