TVK's Bengal unit still stuck in a mess as BJP dismisses such an attempt

Burdwan, Oct 2 (UNI) The controversy over actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) opening its lone Bengal office in Burdwan deepened, with the Bengal unit chief hitting back at an "uncalled for" denial by a self-styled spokesperson of the party.
Meanwhile, the district BJP here has claimed that TVK would not have a foothold in places like Burdwan in the near future.
The dispute began after an office was inaugurated on September 27 at Fagupur in Burdwan, where Chaitali Roy claimed to be the chief coordinator for TVK in Bengal. A webpage titled 'TVK West Bengal' has already been launched to mobilise Vijay's fans and supporters across the state.
However, a spokesperson named Sancavi Dyanah had ridiculed the formation of the Burdwan unit and stated that TVK had not officially opened any branch in West Bengal and had not given direct affiliation, even if local supporters had acted independently on their own initiative.
Rejecting the denial, Bengal head Chaitali Roy claimed that Dyanah was not an authorised spokesperson of the party at all and that her version had already been condemned by the central leadership itself.
Roy said, "Sancavi Dyanah is not listed as an authorised spokesperson. Our General Secretary N Anand has already dismissed Dyanah's claims and told us to continue social work from the Burdwan office."
She claimed that TVK had already gained the support of around 11,000 people. Most of these followers, according to Bengal unit officials, "were the fans of Thalapathy Vijay's blockbuster movies."
Chaitali, who reached Chennai on Wednesday for by-election campaigning, said the General Secretary had rebuked such careless acts after a complaint was lodged by Bengal unit members.
"Once we complained, N Anand rebuked careless acts of irresponsible persons like Dyanah. The Burdwan office is our first unit in Bengal and we have concrete plans to open more offices in other districts soon," she said.
Earlier, local organiser Sanjay D from Chennai, who accompanied Chaitali on September 27, claimed they had not opened an election office but floated a social welfare unit for which they had received approval from the Tamil Nadu leadership.
The party's Bengal unit deputy to Roy, Sekh Nurul Zaman, said, "We had invited more central leaders, but they could not attend due to by-election commitments, but instructed us to continue activities positively and unitedly."
The continued claims and counter-claims have triggered fresh speculation over TVK's organisational expansion beyond Tamil Nadu ahead of Assembly by-elections.
Meanwhile, the district BJP in Burdwan, has paid no serious heed to TVK's sudden presence on the scene.
Kaushik Maji, BJP's district spokesperson, said, "Reels and reality are two different fronts. Even many in BJP may like Vijay's films, but they don't accept him as a politician here."
