Two brothers killed, one injured in suspected sharp-weapon attack in Tripura

Agartala, Oct 20 (UNI) Two brothers were killed and another man critically injured in a suspected sharp-weapon attack in North Tripura's Dharmanagar area near the Assam border, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place late on Monday night in Baruakandi village under West Dewanpasha Gram Panchayat, triggering tension in the district.
The deceased were identified as Jaydeep Roy Chowdhury and Shubhajit Roy Chowdhury, residents of Dewanpasha. They had reportedly gone out for pandal-hopping when they were attacked along with Bijan Das, who sustained serious injuries.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed the three men to Dharmanagar District Hospital after receiving information from local residents. Doctors declared the two brothers dead on arrival, while the third victim, Das is undergoing treatment.
Police suspect the attack may be linked to an earlier dispute. According to Das, a group of individuals had allegedly assaulted him in the same area a day earlier, but he managed to escape. He claimed the assailants returned on Monday night, searched for the brothers near their home and attacked the three men with sharp weapons.
Das reportedly named Vivek Bardhan, Akash Das and Bishal Debnath as the alleged attackers. Police have not arrested any of the suspects so far.
Investigators are probing possible personal enmity, financial disputes and business-related tensions as motives behind the attack.
In a complaint lodged with the police, the brothers' father, Samiran Roy Chowdhury, alleged that Das had previously threatened to kill his sons. He said the brothers had tried to mediate a local dispute on October 18 but had faced threats of violence during the intervention.
The complaint further stated that the brothers received several threatening phone calls from the following morning. Their father said he later learnt that both his sons had been found dead near a marriage hall in Baruakandi.
Police are investigating the incident.
