Two, including BJP leader, sentenced to life for farmer's murder 25 years ago

Jaunpur, July 1 (UNI) A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district today convicted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and another person to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 each for the murder of a farmer 25 years ago, prosecution sources said.

Prosecution sources said in this case, one of the accused, Ajay Singh, was already sentenced to life imprisonment in 2011.
Prosecution sources said that Anirudh Singh, a resident of Udli village of Sarai Khwaja police station area in the district, had lodged a complaint in the police station on October 3, 2000, that his brother Janardan Singh was shot dead in a market.
In his complaint, he said that four days before the incident, his nephew Devendra Singh had gone to Itauri market, where Ajay Kumar Singh of Sonicpur had threatened him with a deadly attack if there was interference in his work.

Prosecution sources said that on this, Anirudh Singh called a panchayat, on which Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and his brother Ajay Singh got angry. "On the evening of October 3, 2000, Anirudh's brother Janardan Singh and nephew Devendra Singh were returning from Itauri market on a motorcycle. They were confronted by Ajay Kumar Singh, Vijay Kumar Singh Vidyarthi, and Pramod Kumar Singh on two bikes. They caught Janardan and shot him dead," the complaint said.

Prosecution sources said that after the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against Ajay Singh, Vijay Singh Vidyarthi, and Pramod Kumar Singh in the court.
"During the trial, Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and Pramod Singh absconded, due to which their files were separated and on the file of Ajay Singh, the court had already pronounced life imprisonment in this case in 2011; later Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and Pramod Singh appeared in the court and the hearing of the case began," they said.

Prosecution sources said that today, based on proof and evidence available in the file, the court ordered life imprisonment and a fine of 25,000 rupees each to Vijay Singh Vidyarthi and Pramod Singh on the charge of murdering farmer Janardan Singh.
