UP: 102 children fall ill after eating khasta at a fair in Amethi

Amethi, Oct 29 (UNI) A total of 102 children took ill on Thursday after eating khasta during the Sharad Purnima fair at Baba Moti Das Dham in Kotwa in the Tiloi area of Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh.
The children complained of vomiting and diarrhea and were taken to a hospital. Currently, 17 children are undergoing treatment, while the others have been sent home. The incident has raised questions about the quality of food sold at the fair and the Food Safety Department's monitoring system.
Chief Medical Officer Anshuman Singh stated that some children ate khasta from a stall at the fair. Afterwards, more than 100 children began vomiting and having diarrhea. They suffered from food poisoning. As their condition worsened, they were hospitalalised for treatment.
As soon as the information was received, top officials of the health department and administration reached the spot. The health department is monitoring the children by setting up a camp. The medical team of CMO Amethi and Community Health Center Tiloi were also present at the spot.
CMO Singh said that the situation is normal at the moment. All the children are out of danger. Prima facie it appears to be a case of food poisoning. UNI XC-MBD CDS
