UP: Former leader of the opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary passes away

Lucknow, Sep 25 (UNI) Veteran socialist leader and former leader of the opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Ram Govind Chaudhary, passed away here on Friday night.
He was around 80 and breathed his last at the SGPGI hospital in Lucknow.
The former UP minister had closely worked with Jayaprakash Narayan and Chandra Shekhar.
He was a close associate of late Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 2017 to 2022.
In the previous Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh, led by Akhilesh Yadav, he was in charge of Basic Education and Child Nutrition and Development Ministries.
He represented the Bansdih assembly seat in Ballia.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has expressed his condolence on the demise of Ram Govind Chaudhary.
In his message, Akhilesh Yadav said, "Senior Samajwadi Party leader, former Leader of Opposition Shri Ram Govind Chaudhary ji passes away. Extremely saddened! May God give peace to his soul. May the bereaved family find strength to bear this immense sorrow."
