UP govt to build 200-acre bio-pharma park in Pilibhit

Lucknow, Nov 3(UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government is continuously working towards making the state a major hub for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing.

As part of this initiative, the state government has taken a major step towards developing Pilibhit, in the Terai region of the state, as a new hub for the bio-pharma industry.
In accordance with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPIDA) is developing a modern industrial area on 951.79 acres in Bhara Pachpeda, Amaria tehsil, Pilibhit. A total 200 acres of this area has been earmarked for a bio-pharma park. The park will promote the production of modern biological medicines such as vaccines, insulin, gene therapy, and monoclonal antibodies. Through this, the plan is to create a new industrial ecosystem for biotechnology-based manufacturing, research, and innovation in the state.
Dr. GN Singh, Director and Special Expert of the Uttar Pradesh Promoted Pharma Council, stated that Chief Minister Adityanath's focus is on developing new investment and employment opportunities at the regional level, rather than limiting industrial development to just major cities. In line with this vision, major industrial projects are being pursued in the Terai region, such as Pilibhit. The Yogi government is striving to manufacture pharmaceutical and biotechnology-related products in the state, thereby attracting investment and creating employment opportunities for local youth.
The Bio-Pharma Park is an important step in this direction. He stated that the industrial area in Bhara Pachpeda is being developed on a total of 951.79 acres. This area includes 575.79 acres for industrial plots, 60.98 acres for common facilities, 109.23 acres for green areas, and 96.20 acres for road networks. Additionally, land has been allocated for residential areas and other categories. Currently, 14 plots are available for allotment in the industrial area. A Bio-Pharma Park is being developed on 200 acres.
Council Director Dr GN Singh stated that the Bio-Pharma Park in Pilibhit will be developed to meet the needs of pharma formulations and biotechnology-based production. Units involved in the production of vaccines, insulin, gene therapy, and monoclonal antibodies will be encouraged here. All these products play a vital role in modern medicine and the treatment of serious diseases. The development of this park will enhance the potential for high-tech pharmaceutical manufacturing in the state.
He explained that Pilibhit's temperature and climate are considered favourable for bio-formulation activities. Temperature plays a crucial role in the production and storage of biological drugs. Therefore, the region's geographical and climatic conditions will be beneficial for the biopharmaceutical industry.
Pilibhit's geographical location is also crucial for the project. It offers strong railway connectivity, along with proximity to the Nepal border. Furthermore, the region is well connected to major cities like Bareilly and Lucknow. The Bhara Pachpeda Industrial Area is located approximately 36 kms from Pilibhit city, 100 kms from Bareilly, and approximately 300 kms from Lucknow and Delhi. This will facilitate the supply of raw materials, the transportation of finished products, and the acceleration of industrial activities. Due to its proximity to the Nepal border, this region is also important for future exports and regional trade.
The special feature of the project is that the plan is not limited to just setting up industrial units here. Special efforts will be made to prepare skilled human resources in the field of biotechnology. Under this, along with the development of a Biotechnology Institute, there is a plan to establish a special wing for skill development and incubation. This will encourage training in the biotechnology and pharma sectors, development of new technologies, and startup activities. It will also help in connecting local youth to employment by providing them with training as per the needs of the industries.
