UP govt to develop Resource, learning centres in panchayats

Lucknow, May 25 (UNI) In a bid to digitally empower gram panchayats, the Uttar Pradesh government will invest Rs 278 crore to develop a digital workforce across villages, including setting up District Panchayat Resource Centres and Learning Centres to strengthen local governance and service delivery, official sources said here on Sunday.
Sources said that the initiative is being undertaken under the National Gram Swaraj Abhiyan scheme, which aims to connect Panchayats with modern technology and bring about a major transformation in the efficiency of service delivery.
Sources said that the main objective of this plan is capacity building and comprehensive training of Panchayat employees. "According to the action plan prepared by the Panchayati Raj Department, employees of Gram Panchayats will be trained to work efficiently on digital platforms. Human resources will be deployed at the state, district, and block levels to accelerate the implementation of various schemes," they said.
Sources said that to support the continuous training and development of panchayat personnel, dedicated centres will be set up. "The construction of district panchayat resource centres and learning centres will ensure that more people benefit from government schemes," they said.
Sources said that the initiative by the government will not only strengthen panchayats digitally but also promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in villages. "The Yogi government has launched the AI Pragya programme in the state, aiming to train 10 lakh people in the use of artificial intelligence tools and applications. Under this programme, employees at the block, district, and gram panchayat levels will also be trained, helping to improve AI skills even in rural areas and boost work efficiency," they said.
Sources said that according to the action plan, the programme's monitoring and implementation will be strengthened through the formation of four-tiered committees. "These include a State Advisory Committee chaired by the Panchayati Raj Minister, a State Steering Committee led by the Chief Secretary, a State Executive Committee under the leadership of the Principal Secretary of Panchayati Raj, and a Monitoring Committee chaired by the Director of Panchayati Raj," they said.
