UP: Now registration becomes mandatory to install lifts and escalators in any premises

Lucknow, July 17 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma on Wednesday said that in view of the safety of citizens during accidents in lifts and escalators installed in multi-storey buildings and establishments in urban areas, the state cabinet has approved the Lift and Escalator Rules-2024.
The Minister said that rules were passed by the cabinet on Tuesday. "The UP Lift and Escalator Act-2024 was passed by the state Legislature on 26 February 2024 regarding the manufacturing, construction, quality, inherent safety features, installation, operation and maintenance of lifts and escalators," he said.
He said that under Section 19 of this Act, rules were promulgated for the operation of lifts and escalators, maintenance of machinery and equipment. He said that now lifts and escalators cannot be installed in any premises without registration.
