UP strengthens Jain Circuit with improved visitor facilities at historic Chhadami Lal Jain Temple

Lucknow, Oct 1 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh is strengthening its Jain tourism circuit by developing better visitor facilities at important Jain heritage sites across the state. As part of this effort, tourism development work at the historic Chhadami Lal Jain Temple in Firozabad, a prominent Jain destination known for its architectural heritage, is progressing rapidly, with nearly 80 per cent of the Rs 1.28 crore project completed.
An official said the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2026.

UP Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said, “Preserving and developing Jain heritage sites is an important part of our effort to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s tourism circuit. The Jain community has made a valuable contribution to the state’s cultural and spiritual heritage, and our focus is to ensure that its important sites receive better visitor facilities while their traditions and architectural legacy are preserved. We want visitors from across the country to experience these destinations with greater comfort and connect with their rich heritage.”

The project includes a Multipurpose Hall, Dormitory, Mural Walls and other visitor facilities. The Multipurpose Hall and Dormitory are around 85 per cent complete, while the Mural Walls have reached 60% completion. These facilities are expected to enhance the overall visitor experience, providing better spaces for gatherings and activities, accommodation support for pilgrims and tourists, and a more attractive cultural setting within the temple complex.

Located at the main Jain intersection of Firozabad, the Chhadami Lal Jain Temple is regarded as one of the country’s prominent Jain temples and attracts visitors from several states for its architectural and spiritual significance. The temple is particularly known for its 42-foot-high stone statue of Lord Bahubali, considered the largest Bahubali statue in North India.

Commissioned by Seth Chhadami Lal, the statue was brought from Karkal in Karnataka to Firozabad in just three months using a special trolley that crossed 64 hills, making its journey a remarkable part of the temple’s history. The temple itself took 10 years to complete and was built using marble stone. In 1947, Seth Chhadami Lal established the temple trust, further strengthening the institutional foundation for preserving and maintaining this important Jain heritage site.

ACS (Tourism), Amrit Abhijat, said, “Firozabad’s Chhadami Lal Jain Temple is an important part of Uttar Pradesh’s Jain heritage. The ongoing development will strengthen visitor infrastructure while supporting the temple’s role within the wider Jain tourism circuit. Our focus is to connect heritage conservation with better facilities so that pilgrims and tourists can experience these destinations in a more meaningful and comfortable manner.”
