The Indian Film Festival of Perth is a new initiative from the team of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) and the Indian Film Festival of Sydney (IFFS). Balan is one of the leading actresses in Indian cinema. Throughout her career, she has played notable roles in women-centric films and stories based on diverse themes. Her presence at the festival is expected to boost efforts to bring Indian cinema to international audiences.
Commenting on the festival announcement, Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM said, "It is a proud moment to bring the Indian Film Festival to Perth. After successful stints in Melbourne and Sydney, we now have the opportunity to reach new audiences and film lovers in Western Australia."
He said that cinema is a medium to connect people, transcend boundaries, and better understand each other. It is special to have Vidya Balan as the chief guest at the first festival. The festival will celebrate the diversity of Indian stories and strengthen cultural ties between India and Western Australia.
The Indian Film Festival of Perth will showcase films from across Indian cinema, spanning various languages, genres and themes, and will also provide opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and cultural exchange between filmmakers, audiences and creative professionals.
