Vij orders probe, FIR against MES contractor over alleged salary deductions; warns “harassment will not be tolerated”

Panchkula, Sept 24 (UNI) Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Thursday ordered the Labour Department to conduct an immediate inquiry and register an FIR against an MES contractor if allegations by workers that he allegedly withheld their wages and deducted Rs 8,000 from their salaries, were substantiated
The workers have also alleged that they had not been paid for the past two months.
Vij, who was hearing public grievances at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantonment, took serious cognisance of the complaint and directed officials to act promptly. He made it clear that wage deductions and harassment of workers would not be tolerated.
The minister also directed officials to ensure that complaints raised during Thursday’s public hearing are resolved before the next weekly hearing, holding officers accountable for delays in action.
In another case, a woman from Ambala City complained that the Electricity Department had raised a Rs 1.17 lakh bill against a house she had purchased recently. She said officials disconnected the power supply despite her objections.
Vij reprimanded electricity officials and ordered an inquiry into the disputed bill, directing them to restore the power connection by tonight and examine the basis of the alleged arrears.
A woman from Shahabad also complained that she was being asked to clear Rs 1.5 lakh in alleged electricity dues for a shop where, she said, no electricity meter had ever been installed. Vij directed the Kurukshetra electricity corporation's SE to examine the matter and take appropriate action.
Employees of the electricity centre at Rai Market raised slogans in support of Vij and requested construction of a new building for the centre. Vij heard their demand and gave in-principle approval on the spot, directing officials to initiate the necessary process.
He also pulled up the Ambala SE after a resident of Balapur complained that electricity poles had been shifted from a narrow lane but the meters had not been relocated, resulting in damage to meters by passing tractor-trolleys. Vij ordered immediate action.
A resident of Brahman Majra complained that an illegal structure had allegedly been raised after encroachment on the village phirni, despite a complaint being submitted to the BDO before construction began.
Vij questioned the BDO over the alleged inaction and directed the Ambala Cantonment SDM to conduct an inquiry and take action against those found responsible.
He also directed municipal authorities to prepare an estimate for paving the village access roads (gohars) in all villages under Ambala Sadar Municipal Council.
Residents of Ramgarh Majra complained of attempts by miscreants to rob people at night by placing stones on the Tangri river embankment road. Taking note of the complaint, Vij directed the Mahesh Nagar SHO to increase night patrolling on the route. He also directed municipal officials to install streetlights along the road.
Vij said after the public hearing that officials had been directed to resolve the complaints placed before him and report action before the next hearing. He said people could approach him whenever they faced problems related to his departments.
Vij also directed action on complaints relating to alleged encroachment on a phirni in Kalarheri, garbage in a park in Sarsehri, non-acceptance of property tax in Lal Kurti, a tubewell connection sought by a farmer from Tharwa Majri, an alleged false affidavit used to get an electricity meter disconnected in the name of a Hisar resident, upgrading the government school at Tundla from Class X to Class XII, closure of a street in Tundla and harassment allegedly faced by a woman from Dayalbagh.
Development and Panchayats Minister Krishan Lal Panwar also met Vij during the public hearing.
Asked about Smriti Irani being appointed BJP's Haryana in-charge, Vij described her as an experienced strategist and said her appointment would benefit the party organisation and government. The BJP announced the appointment on Wednesday, with Irani given charge of Haryana and Chhattisgarh and Bhola Singh named co-in-charge for Haryana.
On Rahul Gandhi, Vij alleged that the Congress leadership had been attacking constitutional institutions, naming the Election Commission and CBI among others. He referred to the Emergency imposed during Indira Gandhi's tenure and alleged that the Congress wanted to obstruct institutions and those working through them.

Panchkula, Sep 24 (UNI) Six pilgrims, including two children and four women, were killed and more than 20 others injured after a tractor-trolley carrying around 30 people overturned near Pindarsi village in Haryana's Kurukshetra district on Thursday, officials said.
