Village-level soil testing lab to be set up in each of the 470 blocks of Bihar

Patna, June 13 (UNI)Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha today said that under the Soil Health and Fertility Scheme, one village-level soil testing laboratory will be established in each of the 470 blocks of the state in this financial year.
Sinha said here on Friday that through these laboratories, local farmers will have access to timely soil testing of their fields, which will enable them to get scientific advice regarding crop rotation, fertiliser use, and land improvement. He said that it will increase the production and productivity of crops and reduce the cost of farming, which will increase the income of the farmers.
Sinha said that in addition to taking the agricultural technologies to the villages, these laboratories will open employment opportunities for the educated youth.
He said that under the Soil Health and Fertility Scheme, a target has been set to improve alkaline soil in various panchayats of 34 districts of the state and acidic soil in 4 districts. Highly alkaline or acidic soil affects the yield of crops, due to which farmers have to suffer losses, he said, adding that soil improvement is important from the point of view of agricultural production.
Sinha said that based on soil samples analysed in the past years, a total of 1900 hectares of land in the state will be supplied with micronutrients. Under this, essential elements like zinc and boron will be distributed on 500 hectares of land in each district, which will improve the fertility of the land and ensure better yield.
