Vimal Negi death Case: HP High Court extends interim protection to Harikesh Meena

Shimla, May 29 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday extended the interim protection granted to IAS officer Harikesh Meena, an accused in the mysterious death case of Vimal Negi.
The development came during the hearing of the bail application, where the court took note of the recent transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The case, which has drawn significant public attention, pertains to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Vimal Negi.
Earlier, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was probing the matter, but following a judgment dated May 23, 2025,,m( in CWP No.6508 of 2025, ) the Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered the investigation to be handed over to the CBI.
During the hearing today, Senior Advocate N.S. Chandel, along with Advocate Vinod K. Gupta, appeared on behalf of the applicant Harikesh Meena.
A status report filed by the state confirmed the transfer of the investigation to the CBI. Taking note of this, the court permitted the applicant to move an appropriate application in light of the new investigating agency being involved. Advocate Janesh Mahajan, appearing for the CBI, waived the service of notice.
Justice Virender Singh, who presided over the matter, listed the case for the next hearing on June 5, and directed that the interim protection currently in place for the applicant would continue until further orders.
Vimal Negi suddenly went missing on March 10 ftom his office of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited and on March 18 his body was recovered by a fisherman in the Govind sagar lake in Bilaspur.
