Jaunpur (UP), May 30 (UNI) Five persons, including three women, were killed and 14 others injured when a private bus overturned after hitting the divider in the Baksha area in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here.
Police sources said that the incident took place on Thursday night at around 1:45 AM when the driver of the private vehicle, going from Ramnagar Ghanshyampur to Jaunpur lost control, climbed a divider, and overturned at the underpass located at Chakpatela village near Shambhuganj Bazar. "While two women and two men died on the spot, a woman died in the district hospital. 14 people were injured in the accident," they said.
Police sources said that upon getting information about the incident, District Magistrate Dr Dinesh Chand and Superintendent of Police Dr Kaustubh immediately reached the spot.
SP Dr Kaustubh said the bus carrying about 40 passengers climbed the divider, reached the opposite track, and overturned in the middle of the road after the driver lost control of the vehicle. "The police immediately reached the spot, took out the people badly trapped in the bus, sent four dead people to the mortuary, and sent 10 injured to Nauperwa CHC Hospital for treatment," he said.
The SP said that a total of five people, including three women, died in the accident. He said while four deceased have been identified as Nemi Devi (60), Sandhya Sharma (26), bus conductor Kalicharan Yadav (40), and Sushila Yadav (65), one of the deceased could not be identified.
