Vimal NegI death case: Janjatiya Nyay Manch threatens legal action

Shimla, May 15 (UNI) The Janjatiya Nyay Manch on Thursday threatened to approach the High Court after being denied access to a government panel report on the mysterious death of former Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Chief Engineer Vimal Negi nearly two months back. Negi's body was recovered from Bhakra Dam,Addressing a press conference in Shimla - retired Captain Rajinder Singh Negi, maternal uncle of the deceased officer - alleged that the state government is shielding the real culprits.
“Instead of scrutinising financial transactions of the accused, the SIT is probing Negi’s own bank accounts,” he said. “Despite the ACS report reportedly indicting HPPCL management for financial irregularities and pressurising Negi to work under extreme stress, the report is being kept classified and not shared even under RTI,” he added.
The family had earlier submitted a complaint to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, with Vimal Negi’s widow Kiran Negi alleging that her husband was forced to work till midnight under duress. The Chief Minister had assured the family of the SIT and ACS report findings within 15 days, but 58 days on, neither the report has been made public nor have the key accused been arrested.
The Manch also criticised Congress leaders for not attending the condolence march held in Shimla to demand justice. “It’s unfortunate that political leaders chose silence while the family continues to seek answers,” Capt. Negi said.
The situation worsened when the SIT contradicted its own earlier court submissions—initially claiming Negi’s mobile phone was missing, and later stating it had been recovered and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Junga.
“The SIT is trying to buy time and protect powerful individuals connected to this case,” said Capt. Negi reiterating the family’s demand for a CBI probe.
With mounting doubts about the credibility of the state investigation and evidence of institutional shielding, the Janjatiya Nyay Manch stated that it will now knock the doors of the judiciary to ensure justice is served. UNI ML SSP
