Weavers' community seeks Kakinada Mayor post from coalition government

Kakinada, Oct 30 (UNI) Leaders of the weavers' community on Friday appealed to the Andhra Pradesh coalition government to allot the Kakinada Mayor's post to their community, citing its electoral strength and support to alliance candidates in the recent elections.
Addressing a press conference here, community leaders Palivela Lakshmi, Amujuri Bhaskar, Sivaji Ganesh, Kadari Madhu, Joga Raju, Siram Prasad, Pampana Prasad and Venkateswara Rao said weaver voters had a significant presence in about 40 Assembly constituencies in the State.
They claimed that the community had a sizeable voter base in Mangalagiri, Pithapuram, Dharmavaram, Yemmiganur, Venkatagiri, Chirala, Madanapalle and Rajahmundry and had supported coalition candidates in the recent elections.
The leaders said alliance leaders had earlier assured the community that its contribution and support would be recognised at an appropriate time.
They appealed to the government to fulfil the assurance by allotting the Kakinada Mayor's post to a candidate from their community.
As the Mayor's post was reserved for a BC woman, they sought the nomination of Jagu Harika, describing her as educated and capable of holding the position.
They expressed hope that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan would consider their demand.
