West Bengal cabinet adopts resolution thanking Modi for 25 years in public life

Kolkata, Oct 14 (UNI) The West Bengal Cabinet on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the completion of 25 years in public life, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari highlighting his contribution to Bengal’s language, culture, heritage and development.
The special Cabinet meeting was held at the state secretariat Nabanna ahead of the Durga Puja recess.
Adhikari said the resolution covered Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister from October 2001 and his subsequent tenure as Prime Minister.
“We have unanimously adopted a resolution expressing our gratitude to the Prime Minister. The resolution will be printed in Bengali and English and sent to the Prime Minister’s Office,” Adhikari said.
He said the resolution recognised Modi’s contribution to economic growth, investment, industry, modernisation, infrastructure and welfare measures for the poor.
Adhikari particularly cited the recognition of Bengali as a classical language, the promotion of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Vande Mataram, international recognition for Santiniketan and UNESCO recognition for Durga Puja.
He also referred to initiatives honouring Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, including the installation of his statue at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, and Modi’s visits to Belur Math.
“Vande Mataram has been taken to the highest national platform,” Adhikari said, referring to the 150th anniversary observance and the special parliamentary discussion on the national song.
He also credited Modi with taking the Padma awards to the grassroots, saying artists, writers and folk performers from Bengal had received national recognition.
Adhikari alleged that the previous Trinamool Congress government had obstructed several Central welfare schemes, but claimed Modi continued to support Bengal’s development despite the opposition.
At the meeting, the Cabinet also approved around 800 additional Durga Puja committees that had sought police permission after the October 5 cut-off, making them eligible for the government grant.
Adhikari said the number of pujas in the state had consequently crossed 58,000 this year, against around 45,000 last year.
“There are around 13,000 new pujas. This is what change means, isn’t it? For those who were unable to understand what change meant, this is an example,” he said.
The resolution, drafted through the efforts of ministers and senior officials, will be formally sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
