Wind power capacity reaches 59.20 GW till Sep 30, India on track to cross 100 GW mark by 2030 : Pralhad Joshi

Chennai, Oct 8 (UNI) India Wind power installed capacity has reached 59.20 GW till September 30 this year and the country was well
on track to cross 100 GW capacity mark by 2030, union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Education and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi said on Thursday.
Inaugurating the 8th edition of 'Windergy India 2026' here, marking the commencement of the global wind energy event, he highlighted the vast potential of wind energy availability in the country and opportunities to explore the same.
The union Minister said “India’s wind sector has demonstrated strong momentum, with the highest-ever annual installation of 6.05 GW achieved in FY26. We are confident that annual wind installations will surpass this record in FY27, marking another important milestone in India’s wind energy journey.
Observing that wind sector was entering a new phase of sustained growth, Prahlad Joshi said with 59.2 GW installed capacity as on 30th September, 2026, India is on track to cross 100 GW of wind capacity by 2030, creating a strong foundation for global leadership in wind manufacturing and exports.
"This continued growth will strengthen the foundation for achieving our national ambition of 100 GW of installed wind capacity by 2030 and further accelerate the development of India’s wind sector. With a strong project pipeline and a supportive policy framework, India is well placed to build on this momentum and achieve the scale required for the next phase of wind energy growth” , he added.
Tamil Nadu Electricity and Law Minister C.T.R.Nirmal Kumar highlighted the role of the state in the development of wind energy sector in the state and efforts taken to promote new initiative like the new renewable energy policy.
Windergy India brings together the global wind energy ecosystem on a common platform, with participation from around 400 exhibitors from more than 20 countries and 500 delegates. Dedicated country pavilions from Denmark, Germany and Spain are also participating in the event.
At the inauguration, the State Governments were felicitated for their exceptional leadership in development of wind energy sector through facilitation lands, clearances, resolution of RoW issues etc.
