Woman loses Rs 1.79 lakh in gas connection cyber fraud; two arrested

Faridabad, Oct 20 (UNI) A woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.79 lakh by a cyber fraudster posing as an Adani Gas representative, while two Delhi-based delivery workers have been arrested for their alleged role in the fraud, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Abhishek and Aditya, both residents of Burari in Delhi, were arrested by Cyber Police Station NIT in connection with the fraud involving Rs 1,79,168.
According to police, the complainant, a resident of Faridabad's NIT area, received a call from an unidentified number on September 7. The caller claimed to represent Adani Gas and offered to reactivate her gas connection, which had been inactive for two years.
The caller subsequently sent a link to her WhatsApp number. After she allegedly opened it, her phone was compromised and Rs 1,79,168 was withdrawn from her bank account through multiple transactions, police said.
A case was registered at Cyber Police Station NIT, and an investigation was launched.
During the probe, police found that Abhishek was the registered subscriber of the SIM card used to contact the woman, while Aditya had allegedly supplied the SIM card to the fraudsters.
Both accused worked as delivery personnel in Delhi, the official said. They were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
In a separate case, the Crime Branch AVTS Sikrona arrested Khurshid, a resident of Andhrola village in Palwal district, for allegedly possessing a stolen motorcycle.
Police said Khurshid was apprehended near Atal Park in Sector 25 on October 19 following a tip-off received during routine patrolling.
During questioning, he allegedly disclosed that he had purchased the motorcycle from a person in Nuh for Rs 10,000, knowing it to be stolen.
