World champion Spain thrashes Portugal in Women's Nations League

Vigo (Spain), Apr 9 (UNI) Spain put the pressure on England in its UEFA Women's Nations League group with a comfortable 7-1 win at home to Portugal at Celta Vigo's Balaidos Stadium on Tuesday night.
The reigning world champion had had to work hard to beat Portugal 4-2 away on Friday, but the return fixture was a very different story as Spain was 4-0 ahead at half-time.
Spain coach Montse Tome picked a starting 11 with eight players from reigning Spanish and European champion FC Barcelona, and the cohesion that brought was quickly visible when Claudia Pina combined with Salma Paralluelo, allowing the latter to poke home at the near post. Women's Ballon d'Or holder Aitana Bonmati then showed why she is considered the best female player in the world when she was given space outside the Portugal area to curl in a left-footed shot after eight minutes.
