Zipline mishap in Manali: Operator lacked permission

Manali, June 16 (UNI) A 10-year-old girl from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was injured in a zipline accident in Manali on June 8, raising serious questions about regulatory lapses by the local administration and the tourism department. A video of the incident has gone viral, showing the child falling nearly 30 feet to the ground while ziplining.
The girl, identified as Trisha, was holidaying in Manali with her parents, Praful and Mrs. Bijve. The fall occurred at an adventure site that, officials confirmed, did not have the necessary permission or registration from the tourism department.
According to norms, such adventure activities are permitted only after formal registration. However, the site where Trisha was ziplining was operating illegally.
Fortunately, Trisha did not fall on rocks and avoided serious injuries.
She was initially admitted to a hospital in Manali and later referred to Chandigarh. She is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Nagpur.
SHO Manali Munish Sharma stated that Trisha’s father recorded his statement at the police station on the day of the incident but declined to pursue legal action. As a result, no FIR has been registered against the zipline operator, identified as Narendra. However, the operator has reportedly agreed to bear all medical expenses for the girl’s treatment.
The incident has sparked outrage, with locals and tourists questioning how unauthorised operators are allowed to function in tourist hubs like Manali. Critics argue that the administration only acted after the accident went public, despite repeated warnings in the past about the risks posed by unregulated adventure activities.
The tourism department has yet to make a formal statement on how the site continued operations without clearance.
