Himachal: Two Dead, 24 Injured as Tempo Traveller falls into gorge

Lahaul-Spiti, June 16 (UNI) In a tragic accident near Gramphu on the Koksar-Rohtang road in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti district, a Tempo Traveller carrying 24 tourists plunged nearly 300 feet off the road this evening, resulting in the death of two passengers —a man and a woman.
One more is reported to be critically injured.
The incident occurred around 5 PM when the vehicle, bearing a registration number from Sonipat, Haryana (HR69F-3333), lost control and overturned into the gorge. The Tempo Traveller was carrying tourists from Haryana, Delhi, and Gujarat.
As soon as the district administration received information, five rescue teams under the leadership of DySP Headquarters, Keylong, were rushed to the spot.
"Relief and rescue operations were launched immediately with the help of local residents," said Superintendent of Police Lahaul-Spiti Ms Ilma Afroz. "All injured passengers were pulled out and transported to Manali for urgent medical treatment."
According to officials, 22 of the 24 passengers were shifted to Manali Hospital. After preliminary treatment, six seriously injured individuals were referred to Manali Mission Hospital and Kullu, while 16 are currently being treated at Manali Hospital. Among the injured are two twin children aged around 6–7 years, both of whom sustained head injuries.
"The swift response by the local police and villagers helped in saving many lives," SP Ilma Afroz added. "We are closely monitoring the condition of all the injured and ensuring they receive the best possible medical care."
A case has been registered, and the cause of the accident is being investigated. The district administration has also issued an advisory for travellers to exercise caution while driving on the mountainous terrain, especially during monsoon-prone periods. UNI ML SSP
