Alleged manhandling of woman journo: Man held for circualting fabricated content portraying police officer in bad light

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) A team of Cyber Police station, New delhi District has arrested one self-claimed independent journalist for circulating a fabricated video post falsely portraying ACP Vivek Bhagat, in bad light.
This revelation comes amid protestors demanding FIR (first information report) against the said officer over the alleged harassment of woman, who claimed to be an independent journalist.
According to a senior police official, the accused person circulated the incriminating video reel through a social media account, claiming it to be authentic. The police have recovered the mobile phone used for circulation of the alleged video. It was on Sunday, that during social-media monitoring, certain social media reels came to notice wherein a fabricated, and manipulated video was being projected as genuine CCTV footage, showing a person dressed as a police officer allegedly engaging in sexually inappropriate conduct with a woman.
In the alleged content, name and designation of Bhagat, were prominently displayed alongside the purported CCTV footage, thereby falsely portraying that the incident involved the said officer, police said on Tuesday.
During investigation, the user of one of the Instagram accounts with the name, @news_aaina0776, was identified as Nadeem Ahmed Ameen, a resident of Palwal, Haryana. According to a senior police officer, he works as an independent journalist and runs an Instagram news handle named News Aina Today.
On Monday, he was apprehended from Mewat Region, Haryana, and during examining his phone, the alleged social media account was found to be logged-in from his phone, through which the incriminating reel had been circulated,
Further, content, and the photo connected with the fabricated reel was also found in the gallery of the mobile phone. The accused was arrested and will be produced before the Court, while further investigation is under process in connection with the matter. An investigation is in progress to ascertain his source of funding and also to verify as to if any larger pre planned conspiracy was hatched in order to spread instigation and anarchy during the said protest.
The police said that other such accounts involved in creating a false narrative to tarnish the image of the department and spread disaffection and dissatisfaction against the government are also being identified.
Meanwhile, amid the ongoing inquiry into the allegations regarding alleged manhandling of women journalists, the ACP concerned of his own volition, has requested not to avail the duty charge assignment, as Additional DCP, which had been initiated on August 25, much before the present set of events.
It was on Saturday that around 6 PM three women, who identified themselves as journalists, gave a complaint alleging manhandling by the officers of the Delhi Police and the staff, while they had come to cover the protestors. The police shared that their complaint was duly accepted, and their medical examinations had been conducted, while the matter was referred to the Crime Branch for an in-depth inquiry.
A senior police offical also appealed to people that in case anyone has the relevant video footage in this connection can come forward and share it with the Crime Branch, which could be helpful in the inquiry. UNI APS SS
