BLOs to visit homes of electors issued SIR notices; no need to visit ERO offices for hearing

New Delhi, Sept 28 (UNI) Electors who have been issued notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi for being unmapped or having logical discrepancies will no longer need to visit the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) offices for hearings, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, said on Monday.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to visit the homes of such electors, collect the relevant documents and upload them on the ECINet for consideration and decision by the ERO.
The decision is aimed at easing the hearing process and ensuring greater convenience for electors, the CEO's office said. The ECI, on September 26, revised the schedule of the ongoing SIR 2026 in Delhi with the objective of ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral rolls. Under the revised schedule, the period for filing claims and objections will continue from August 31 to October 30, while the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will run from August 31 to November 30. The final electoral roll will be published on December 4, 2026.
The CEO's office said that only in exceptional circumstances, as decided by the ERO, would a hearing be held, preferably through online mode. It also said that, if a hearing is required, any adult member of the family may be authorised by the elector to attend it on their behalf.
Electors who have received notices have been requested to provide the relevant documents to BLOs during their visits to their homes. Following the ECI's directions, the CEO, Delhi, held a review meeting with all District Election Officers and conveyed the Commission's decision. The officers were directed to implement the decision "in letter and spirit" and communicate it to all EROs, AEROs, BLO Supervisors and BLOs.
The CEO's office reiterated that electors who have been served notices need not visit the ERO/AERO offices for hearing. BLOs will visit their homes to collect the relevant documents and upload them on the ECINet, following which the ERO will take necessary action for disposal of the notices by November 30.
Meanwhile, special camps for enrolment of young electors will be organised at all colleges, universities and other educational institutions across Delhi on September 29 and 30 from 9 am to 3 pm. Young citizens eligible for enrolment have been urged to use the opportunity to register their names in the electoral rolls and participate in the democratic process.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to a transparent, participative and inclusive revision process, with the objective that "no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll." UNI PWS CDS
