Ghanshyam Dass Jain’s birth centenary marked with Commemorative coin, postage stamp

New Delhi, Oct17 (UNI) A commemorative coin, postage stamp and archival volume featuring 101 handwritten compositions were released on Saturday to mark the birth centenary of renowned musician and philanthropist Sangeet Samrat Ghanshyam Dass Jain at the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre here.
The three releases paid tribute to Jain (1925–1997), whose contributions to music, literature and social service were commemorated at the national cultural conclave organised by the Ghanshyam Dass Bhagya Devi Jain Trust in collaboration with several socio-cultural organisations.
The commemorative coin was unveiled by Ministry of Corporate Affairs Secretary Pallavi Jain Govil and Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma. The postage stamp was jointly released by Mariamma Thomas, Member (Philately, Media and Communication) of the Postal Services Board, Govil, Sharma and renowned Kathak exponent Saswati Sen.
The centenary volume, titled Sangeetmay Virasat, containing 101 handwritten songs, ghazals and patriotic compositions by Jain, was also released by Sharma, Govil and Sen in the presence of cultural and community leaders.
The event marked the launch of an annual cultural initiative themed Shakti, Sadhana aur Samarpan, bringing together music, classical dance, spiritual discourse and theatre to celebrate India's cultural heritage.
The programme featured discourses by Jain saints on the significance of the Navkar Mahamantra and Kshama Parv, alongside Kathak performances by Gauri Diwakar and Himani Gogni, highlighting the Guru-Shishya tradition.
The cultural proceedings concluded with NEM Sparsh, a theatrical presentation depicting the spiritual journey of Neminath Bhagwan.
The conclave also highlighted the Jain principles of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Anekantvad (the multiplicity of perspectives), underscoring the event's emphasis on the relationship between artistic expression, spiritual values and social service.
The organisers said the centenary celebrations sought to preserve Jain's musical legacy and bring his contributions to a wider audience through archival documentation and cultural programmes.UNI AAB
