Haryana CM appeals to power employees to reconsider three-day strike, prioritise public interest

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has appealed to electricity department employees to reconsider their proposed three-day strike beginning October 22, warning that disruption in power supply could adversely affect hospitals, agriculture, industries, businesses and essential public services across the state.
In an appeal to power department employees, Saini urged them to reconsider the proposed strike from October 22 to 24, with the wider interests of the people of Haryana in mind.
The Chief Minister said electricity was not merely a basic utility but also the backbone of daily life, agriculture, industry, trade and the state's economic activities. Ensuring uninterrupted power supply was, therefore, a collective responsibility.
He said public welfare and essential services were paramount for the state government. Electricity department employees were an important part of the administrative system, and their services were directly connected with the daily lives of crores of people.
Saini cautioned that any disruption in electricity supply could affect ordinary citizens, farmers, traders, industries, hospitals, students and other essential services.
Acknowledging the contribution of power employees, the Chief Minister said they worked tirelessly in all weather conditions, day and night, to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply.
He said their hard work and dedication ensured that electricity reached homes, agricultural fields, shops and industries across the state.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that employees would discharge their responsibilities with sensitivity towards public needs and avoid any situation that could cause unnecessary inconvenience to citizens.
Saini acknowledged that employees had the right to raise their demands and grievances in a democratic system. However, he emphasised that dialogue between the government and employees should remain positive and solution-oriented.
He said lasting solutions to problems could be achieved through mutual discussions, cooperation and understanding. He urged employees to pursue dialogue to resolve their demands and avoid measures such as strikes.
Highlighting the potential consequences of a power disruption, Saini said it could adversely affect the daily lives of families, agricultural operations, the livelihoods of small traders and industrial activities.
He particularly stressed the importance of uninterrupted electricity supply for hospitals, drinking water services and other essential facilities.
The Chief Minister said employees should consider the wider public interest and their social responsibilities while taking a decision on the proposed strike.
Reiterating the state government's commitment to development, public welfare and better services, Saini said the participation and cooperation of employees were essential for Haryana's progress.
He said the government and its employees were partners in improving administration and ensuring effective delivery of public services.
The Chief Minister once again appealed to all electricity department employees to give priority to public interest and reconsider their decision to proceed with the proposed three-day strike.

Pinjore's medieval water heritage springs back to life as ancient baolis are rescued from oblivion

22 Oct 2026 | 8:58 AM

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) Long before concrete dams and canal networks dominated the landscape, the Aravalli foothills of Haryana were watered by a quieter, more ingenious architecture: the baoli. These medieval stepwells, tiered stone structures that descended into the earth to tap hidden aquifers, were once the lifeline of the region, blending utilitarian water harvesting with extraordinary craftsmanship. Today, centuries after many fell into disuse and disrepair, Panchkula's Pinjore block is witnessing a rare resurrection of this forgotten heritage.
