Haryana minister opens skill training centre for underprivileged children in Panchkula

Panchkula, Oct 12 (UNI) Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Vipul Goel on Monday inaugurated a vocational training centre for underprivileged children in Panchkula, offering computer, tailoring and music courses to promote self-employment, and said the state government had approved Rs 40 crore for excavation work at the historic Agroha Dham.
The new training facility, established by Maharaja Agrasen Welfare Trust at Maheshpur in Sector 21, aims to equip children from economically weaker families with practical skills and improve their prospects of earning a livelihood.
Goel, who also holds the Urban Local Bodies portfolio, inspected the building and reviewed the training facilities after inaugurating the centre.
Addressing the gathering, he said vocational education could help children from disadvantaged backgrounds become financially independent and support their families.
"The initiative will provide poor and needy children with opportunities to acquire skills, pursue self-employment and become self-reliant," Goel said.
He appreciated the trust's contribution to social welfare and assured its office-bearers of possible assistance in expanding its activities.
Referring to the state government's heritage initiatives, Goel said Rs 40 crore had been sanctioned for the resumption of excavation work at Agroha Dham. He also welcomed the naming of Hisar airport after Maharaja Agrasen and thanked Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the decision.
The minister said Maharaja Agrasen's principles of non-violence and social equality remained relevant and that the Haryana government was committed to ensuring welfare schemes reached disadvantaged sections of society.
He said programmes and seminars marking Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti were being organised across Haryana and would continue for a month.
Goel also urged young people to carry forward the tradition of community service by contributing part of their earnings towards social welfare.
Panchkula Mayor Sham Lal Bansal said education and skill development were essential for the progress of society. He praised the trust for providing computer and tailoring training alongside educational support to children.
Bansal also appealed to residents to participate in cleanliness campaigns and help make Panchkula cleaner, greener and more attractive.
Maharaja Agrasen Welfare Trust president Jagmohan Garg said the organisation was established in 2009 to support the marriages of girls from economically weaker families and had subsequently expanded its activities to education and vocational training.
He said the trust planned to establish a large school in Panchkula in the name of Maharaja Agrasen, where children would be charged a nominal fee.
During the programme, 108 girls were honoured as part of Kanya Pujan celebrations, and Goel distributed school bags among them. He also presented certificates to children who had excelled in sports, education, computer training and tailoring.
Haryana Shivalik Development Board Executive Vice-Chairman Om Prakash Devnagar, former Panchkula Mayor Kulbhushan Goel, trust president Jagmohan Garg, general secretary Mukesh Bansal, finance secretary Anil Goel and other office-bearers attended the function.
