Haryana: Police issue over 12,700 traffic challans in Gurugram; reward-carrying robbery accused held

Panchkula, Sep 24 (UNI) Haryana Police have issued 12,768 traffic challans in Gurugram during a special enforcement drive this month, including 9,394 for lane violations carrying fines of over Rs 1.12 crore, while separate police operations led to arrests in a Rs 25-lakh armed robbery case and two fatal road accident cases, a police spokesman said here today.
The spokesman said Gurugram Traffic Police intensified enforcement between September 1 and 23 to curb violations and improve road safety on major stretches, including NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway.
During the period, police issued 3,374 challans for violation of no-entry restrictions imposed on heavy and commercial vehicles on designated roads and during specified hours.
In a parallel drive against lane indiscipline, 9,394 motorists were challaned and fines totalling Rs 1,12,23,000 were imposed, the spokesman said.
Haryana Police said wrong-lane driving and sudden lane changes pose a serious accident risk and enforcement against such violations would continue across Gurugram.
Reward-carrying accused held in Rs 25-lakh robbery
In a separate operation, Haryana Police arrested a Rs 5,000 reward-carrying accused from Mumbai on September 23 in connection with an armed robbery in which about Rs 25 lakh cash was allegedly looted from a fintech company's collection manager near Park Hospital in Sector 47, Gurugram, on April 29.
The accused was identified as Sameer Alam, a resident of Bihar. The arrest was made by the Crime Branch, Sector 31, Gurugram, the spokesman said.
Four accused had previously been arrested in the case. Police have so far recovered Rs 10.52 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, a pistol allegedly used in the crime and a mobile phone worth about Rs 1 lakh.
Two drivers held in fatal accident cases
Haryana Police also took action in two separate fatal road accident cases.
In the first case, Sachin Kumar, who worked as a DG operator at Gateway Tower in DLF Phase 3, was allegedly hit by a speeding car while returning home from work on September 13. He later died during treatment.
Police identified the driver as Jatin Bharti of Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, and joined him in the investigation on September 22 in accordance with legal procedure. The car allegedly involved in the accident has also been recovered.
In another case, police arrested Mithun Barik, a resident of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal, after a man was allegedly run over by a car in a parking area near Tigra village in the Sector 57 area.
The incident was reported on September 19 and the accused driver was arrested in Gurugram the following day. Police have recovered the car allegedly involved in the incident.
The police spokesman said investigations in the criminal cases were continuing and further action would be taken in accordance with law.
Haryana Police appealed to motorists to observe lane discipline, comply with no-entry restrictions and follow traffic regulations, saying enforcement drives would continue to improve road safety in Gurugram. UNI KK SS
