Houthis threaten ‘swift and painful’ response if US joins Saudi strikes

Sana'a, Oct 13 (UNI) Yemen’s Houthis on Tuesday threatened a “swift and painful” response targeting the United States and its interests in the region if Washington joins Saudi Arabia in military strikes against the Iran-aligned group.
Mohammed Al Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthis’ political bureau, issued the warning in an interview with Agence France-Presse, after US President Donald Trump said he is considering military action against the group.
“If the US becomes involved in the aggression against Yemen, we will not deliberate over the decision to respond,” Al Bukhaiti said, adding that the response would target US interests across the region.
He also warned "all employees and workers at Saudi oil facilities and airports (should) stay away from these sites, as they have become legitimate targets".
Trump said on Saturday he was considering U.S. military action against the Houthis following the airport attack.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Yemen’s Houthis were “misbehaving very badly” as the group stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.
“Well, the Houthis are misbehaving very badly. No good,” Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for Ohio, when asked what he planned to do about the group.
The remarks came after repeated Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed at least 13 people and wounded more than 300 over the weekend.
Saudi authorities have extended the suspension of operations at Riyadh’s airport until Saturday.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia's energy minister has vowed a "serious" response to the deadly attacks on the kingdom's airports and oil and gas facilities by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement.
"The events of recent weeks are serious. Our response must be equally serious," Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman told the WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh.
The tensions follow a series of Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, including a strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday that Saudi authorities said killed 13 people and injured hundreds.
The Houthis have stepped up attacks on Saudi infrastructure in recent days, while Saudi-led coalition forces have continued operations against the group in Yemen.
On Tuesday, the coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed three drones north of Riyadh and announced plans for an operation in the Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa, urging civilians to evacuate a central fuel station ahead of the action.
The escalating confrontation has raised concerns about a broader regional conflict, with the prospect of direct U.S. involvement adding to tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed movement.UNI AAB
