India eye 4-0 lead as New Zealand search for answers

Auckland, Oct 29 (UNI) When a team scores nearly 200 runs and still ends up on the losing side with more than six overs to spare, it is not just the bowling that needs attention; the entire game plan deserves a hard look. New Zealand know that only too well as they prepare to face India in the fourth T20 International on Friday.
India have already pocketed the five-match series 3-0, but the visitors will be keen to ensure that the result is not merely a reflection of their superiority in individual matches, but of their ability to sustain pressure across the series.
The third T20I was a reminder that in modern T20 cricket, even a total of 198 can look distinctly ordinary when the opposition bats with the freedom and ferocity India displayed. Chasing 199, India raced to 199 for four in just 13.2 overs, winning by six wickets and leaving New Zealand's bowlers with precious little time to recover from one assault before the next arrived.
Abhishek Sharma's 113 off 38 balls was the sort of innings that turns a chase into a spectacle. His century was not built around cautious accumulation followed by a late flourish; it was an exhibition of boundary-hitting that put the required rate under pressure on the bowlers rather than the batters. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with 45 off 19 deliveries, provided equally emphatic support.
For New Zealand, the uncomfortable question is not simply how to dismiss Abhishek, but how to prevent him from dictating the terms of the contest. A wayward delivery disappears, a predictable length is punished and a defensive field can quickly become an admission that the batter is in charge.
The hosts must find a way to make India work harder for their runs. Early wickets would help, but discipline and variation will be just as important. Against a batting line-up capable of accelerating so dramatically, one expensive over can undo the good work of several economical ones.
India, meanwhile, have their own areas to examine. New Zealand's 198 for three in the previous match showed that the Indian attack has not been entirely without challenges. While the batters rescued the situation emphatically, the bowling unit will want to tighten its execution, particularly in the closing overs.
With the series already decided, India could also consider changes to their playing XI. The fourth match offers an opportunity to assess squad depth, though any rotation must be balanced against the desire to maintain winning momentum.
Eden Park's short boundaries could once again encourage attacking cricket, but a lively contest will depend on whether New Zealand can make the Indian batters earn their boundaries instead of offering them opportunities to swing freely.
For India, the target is straightforward: another victory and a 4-0 lead. For New Zealand, the task is more pressing. They need to demonstrate that the previous defeat was an aberration rather than evidence of a growing inability to contain India's batting power.
The fourth T20I, therefore, is not merely about the series scoreline. It is about whether New Zealand can find an answer before the final match—and whether India can continue making formidable totals look surprisingly small.
