Iyer urges India to maintain aggressive approach as series moves to Hyderabad, Bengaluru

Indore, Oct 11 (UNI) With India taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20 International series against the West Indies, captain Shreyas Iyer on Sunday stressed the need to maintain an aggressive approach, stick to established processes and guard against complacency as the teams head to Hyderabad and Bengaluru for the remaining matches.
India registered a 14-run victory in the third T20I here, defending a total of 223 after an explosive start from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan helped lay the foundation for a competitive score.
Looking ahead to the high-scoring venues of Hyderabad and Bengaluru, Iyer said India would need to maintain their intensity and execution while remaining mindful of the West Indies' match-winning potential.
"Both of them are high-scoring grounds, but it is important that we stick to our process and the routines which we have been following, and also see to it that we are offensive enough in our approach and the attitude is top-notch," Iyer said after the match.
The India captain also cautioned against underestimating the West Indies, who have the firepower to turn a match around despite being under pressure.
"You cannot take them lightly because there are a lot of game-changers in the team, and anyone can win the match. We have got to stay positive throughout the game and see to it that we are not complacent at any point of time," he said.
Reflecting on India's batting performance, Iyer praised Abhishek for providing crucial runs in the powerplay and Ishan for taking on the opposition bowlers.
"That was a phenomenal start, what we got from Abhishek — those crucial runs in the powerplay. We know what he can offer, and then Ishan coming in and taking on the bowlers. He has been simply remarkable in the last couple of months," he said.
He added that India's middle order played an important role in keeping the innings on track despite the loss of wickets, while a late cameo from Prince provided valuable runs.
"We never let West Indies take charge, even though we kept on losing wickets. We steadied the ship in the middle order as well. That took us to a commendable total of 223," Iyer said.
The captain was also pleased with the bowlers' confidence and clarity in executing their plans, saying the availability of a dry ball had helped them approach their tasks decisively.
"When I was passing on the ball to them, each and every one was ready to take on the challenge, and that is what we want," he said.
India will look to carry the momentum of their victory into the remaining fixtures as they seek to consolidate their advantage and move closer to clinching the series.
