Kharge dares Modi to open debate on ‘vote chori’, demands Shah’s resignation over infiltration

New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday launched a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah, challenging the Prime Minister to an open debate on the Opposition’s allegations of “vote chori” and accusing the government of evading questions raised by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Kharge accused Modi of recycling what he described as the failed political slogan of “Dimaagi Naxal” to divert attention from allegations of electoral manipulation and questions over the government’s handling of India’s interests in its dealings with foreign powers.
“PM Modi is parroting his flop line of ‘Dimaagi Naxal’! He has NO answer on Vote Chori and the Open Challenge by Shri Rahul Gandhi to discuss how he mortgaged Indian interests to Foreign powers,” Kharge said, demanding that the Prime Minister come forward and answer the Opposition’s questions.
The Congress president also questioned Shah’s claim that three crore voters were infiltrators, asking what the Home Minister had been doing during his years in office if such a large number of illegal entrants had been allowed into the country. He described the alleged failure as a reflection of the Home Minister’s incompetence and demanded his removal from office.
Kharge simultaneously renewed the Congress’s attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the poll panel had made five U-turns during the exercise. He specifically questioned changes to Form 6, used for the inclusion of names in electoral rolls, and referred to objections reportedly raised by fellow Election Commissioners over the legality of the changes.
“ECI has taken 5 U-Turns on SIR. This includes a complete change of Form 6, which was termed as ‘Illegal’ by fellow Election Commissioners! Why?” he asked.
The SIR exercise has emerged as a major political flashpoint, with the Congress and other Opposition parties alleging that the revision could result in the exclusion of genuine voters. The Election Commission, however, has maintained that the exercise is aimed at ensuring the accuracy and integrity of electoral rolls.
Turning his attention to Parliament, Kharge questioned the government’s handling of the parliamentary calendar, pointing out that the previous session had not been prorogued even after 83 days. He also questioned the reported move to convene a special session as the next parliamentary sitting approached.
The Congress leader linked the government’s political difficulties to the Opposition’s recent campaign against the Election Commission, claiming that the public impeachment campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the large-scale ‘Vote Bachao’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan had unsettled the BJP leadership.
Taking a direct swipe at Modi over his engagement with Parliament and the media, Kharge accused the Prime Minister of avoiding parliamentary accountability and pointed out that he had not addressed a single open press conference.
“You don’t come to the Parliament. You have not done a SINGLE OPEN PRESS CONFERENCE, it’s time you came for a DEBATE,” he said.
Issuing a direct challenge to the Prime Minister, Kharge concluded: “Come forward, Face Questions. Tell the Nation why did you indulge in VOTE CHORI !!”
The latest attack reflects the Congress’s effort to bring electoral transparency, the SIR controversy and Rahul Gandhi’s demand for a direct debate with Modi to the centre of the political discourse. It also signals the Opposition’s determination to sustain its confrontation with the government over the Election Commission’s functioning and the integrity of the electoral process. UNI SKA AAB
