Maha: Ground-truthing surveys approved in 18 more talukas

Nashik Oct 9 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has approved ground-truthing (field verification) surveys in 18 additional talukas across the state, beyond those covered under Trigger-1 criteria, to assess the actual field conditions of five major crops.
The survey will cover 20% of the area under these crops in each of the selected talukas.
The approval was granted by the state’s Relief and Rehabilitation Department following directions from Revenue Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Drought Mitigation, Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
The decision comes in view of the rainfall deficit and other adverse factors affecting the state between June and September 2026.
The government had earlier declared drought in 265 talukas based on conditions during the 2026 Kharif season and announced various relief measures and concessions.
However, drought-like conditions and the severity of agricultural distress were also observed in several other talukas.
The issue was discussed at a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee held on September 29.
List of 18 Talukas Selected for Ground-Truthing Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division

The ground-truthing exercise will cover 20% of the area under the five major crops in all 18 talukas.

The survey is expected to help the government assess actual crop conditions and the extent of agricultural distress in these areas while considering the need for additional drought-relief measures.
