Mighty Marathas Beat Chola Chiefs 6-0 to Open Account in Archery Premier League

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) Mighty Marathas registered a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Chola Chiefs to open their account in the second season of the Archery Premier League at People's Plaza here on Saturday.
After losing their opening two matches, the Marathas produced a dominant performance without dropping a single set, with Dutch archer Mike Schloesser and India's Dhiraj Bommadevara playing key roles.
Chola Chiefs suffered their second defeat in three matches.
Schloesser, popularly known as 'Mr. Perfect', lived up to his reputation by hitting the 10-point ring with all six of his arrows.
The Chiefs opened the first set by deploying their compound archers in successive turns, but Chikitha Taniparthi's two 9s prevented them from building sufficient scoreboard pressure.
Despite a couple of 8s from the Marathas' recurve archers, their compound archers helped secure the opening set 74-73.
In the second set, Bommadevara produced a crucial 10 under time pressure as the Marathas extended their lead to 4-0.
Taniparthi again scored two 9s, prompting the Chiefs to bring in Colombian archer Alejandra Usquiano, who had impressed on the previous day.
In the third set, Deepika Kumari and Marcus D'Almeida were unable to maintain the Chiefs' challenge after their arrows landed outside the yellow scoring zone.
The Marathas held their nerve to win the set 74-72 and seal the match before a fourth set was required.
The Archery Premier League, initiated by the Archery Association of India, features six franchises and 48 archers, including 36 Indians and 12 international stars.
The tournament will conclude on October 18, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals before the title clash.
On Sunday, Chero Archers will face local franchise Kakatiya Knights, Chola Chiefs will take on Prithviraaj Yodhas, and Mighty Marathas will meet defending champions Rajputana Royals.
