Nitish Reddy targets allrounder greatness after match-winning comeback

New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is aiming for nothing less than becoming “the greatest all-rounder”, and his injury comeback received a major boost on Tuesday as he produced a match-winning spell against Afghanistan in the second T20I.
Reddy returned figures of 3/24 to play a key role in restricting Afghanistan to 159/8 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, earning the Player of the Match award as India chased down the target in just 14.5 overs to seal the three-match series 2-0.
“I always wanted to become the greatest all-rounder, and for that I wanted that extra pace, which I’m getting,” Reddy said after his performance.
The 23-year-old, who has been working his way back from injury, said the work at the Centre of Excellence had helped his recovery and allowed him to regain his bowling rhythm.
“It’s good. Right now I’m feeling great. We have done some great work at COE, and the body’s recovering well,” he said.
Reddy acknowledged that generating extra pace came with its own risks, but said he was focused on remaining fit and avoiding recurring injuries.
“You will have the pros and cons, and I’m working on not getting frequently injured and staying fit,” he said.
His three-wicket haul was also a response after the opening T20I, with Reddy stressing the importance of self-belief in making a comeback.
“It’s all about trusting your ability and making that comeback, and I was just believing in myself,” he said.
“It’s a funny game; anything can change in a moment,” Reddy added.
His performance on Tuesday underlined the value of his pace-bowling all-rounder role and provided a timely reminder of the ambition driving his comeback.
