Revival of livestock facilities must for farmers’ livelihoods, says Manipur CM

Imphal, Sep 25 (UNI) Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today attended the distribution of pregnant heifers to acheduled caste farmers under the North Eastern Council funded project "Dairy Farming - A way of life for Scheduled Caste Farmers of Manipur at Farmers' Training Hall, Veterinary Complex, Sanjenthong, Imphal.

Addressing the gathering, CM Khemchand Singh stated that the government, beneficiaries and employees of the Department must discharge their respective responsibilities with honesty, sincerity and accountability for the successful implementation of the projects.

The Chief Minister appreciated the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department for ensuring transparency in the implementation of the project, particularly in the selection of beneficiaries through a lottery system. He stated that such transparent processes would help ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach the beneficiaries.

Referring to the Buffalo Farm located at Wabagai in Kakching District, Khemchand Singh stated that with the support of the State government, the number of buffaloes at the farm has been subsequently increased.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to revive and effectively utilise the existing livestock and cattle-rearing facilities of the Department. He stated that strengthening such facilities would not only promote livestock development but also contribute to improving the livelihood of farmers and strengthening the economy of the State.

A total of 612 beneficiaries were selected from four districts, namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching and Thoubal for the project. For the function, 31 beneficiaries were selected, of whom eight beneficiaries were handed over the benefits physically at the function venue, while 23 beneficiaries attended the function virtually from the cattle farm at Tangkham, Imphal East.
