Saini counters Mann’s airport complaint, says tax was unpaid on goods

Panchkula, Oct 29 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has countered Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s allegations of political targeting over a Customs action at the airport, claiming that the issue concerned goods on which tax had not been paid.
Saini also shared a video clip on X in which he recounted his experience of having his baggage checked upon returning from Sweden, saying he had no objection to the inspection.
“There were some goods on which tax had not been paid,” Saini said in response to a question about Mann’s allegations against the BJP during an interview with a private television channel.
Recalling his own experience, Saini said, “My baggage was checked too when I returned from Sweden. I told them to check it. They checked it and let me go. There was no issue.”
When the interviewer referred to Mann’s complaint that he had been made to wait at the airport for around three hours, Saini reiterated that his own luggage had also been inspected.
He also questioned what imported goods Mann had brought from abroad and whether such items were unavailable in India. However, Saini did not specify the goods in the interview excerpt.
The exchange comes amid a controversy over a reported Rs 50,000 Customs penalty imposed on Mann at Delhi airport after his return from Paris. Mann has disputed the justification for the action and alleged that it was politically motivated.
