Telangana to Develop World-Class Sports Infrastructure, Promote Athletes: Dy CM Bhatti

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) The Telangana government is according priority to sports development, with plans to create world-class infrastructure and strengthen athlete training facilities, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said on Saturday.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) tournament at the golf course near Golconda Fort here, he said the government was taking steps to develop athletes on the South Korean model and establish Telangana as a major sporting hub.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also attended the event.
Bhatti said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had announced plans to construct a world-class sports stadium in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister had also invited international footballer Lionel Messi to Telangana, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government was studying sports development models followed by universities in South Korea, where institutions had achieved significant success in sporting competitions.
Revanth Reddy had personally visited a university in the country and held discussions with its Vice-Chancellor and sports officials on signing a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate sports training for students from Telangana, he said.
Officials had been directed to examine the training methods, infrastructure and incentive systems that enabled universities to achieve outstanding results in sports, Bhatti added.
Describing the Hyderabad Golf Course as an important facility for sports and tourism, he said hosting the tournament near the historic Golconda Fort would enhance the city's profile.
The government would extend necessary support to the golf course and other sporting facilities across the state, he assured.
Congratulating the tournament winners, the Deputy Chief Minister extended his best wishes to participants from different parts of the world and expressed hope that they would achieve greater success in their sporting careers.
He said he had cancelled other engagements to attend the event, underlining the importance of encouraging athletes and promoting sports.
He expressed hope that more such initiatives would be organised to identify and nurture sporting talent.
The tournament was jointly organised by the Hyderabad Golf Association, NDTV, AM Green and the Indian Golf Premier League.
Bhatti Vikramarka later presented trophies to the winners.
