US to mediate Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Abu Dhabi on Nov 10–11:Witkoff

Washington/ Abu Dhabi, Nov 3 (UNI) The United States will mediate fresh working-level peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has announced, as President Donald Trump intensifies efforts to bring an end to the ongoing war.
Announcing the development in a post on X, Witkoff said the discussions would focus on post-war security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian assistance and the next steps towards achieving a peace agreement.
He said the negotiations are part of President Trump's efforts to end the conflict and establish lasting peace between the two countries.
The upcoming Abu Dhabi negotiations represent another diplomatic effort by Washington to bring Moscow and Kyiv to the negotiating table as with military operations continuing and major disagreements remaining over security guarantees and post-war arrangements, the November 10–11 discussions will be closely watched for signs of progress towards ending the conflict.
Ahead of the Abu Dhabi negotiations, US representatives are also expected to meet officials from France, Germany, the United Kingdom and NATO allies in Brussels this week.
According to Witkoff, the discussions will focus on security guarantees for Ukraine, Europe's post-war security framework and economic opportunities to support Ukraine's reconstruction.
He expressed optimism about building on previous diplomatic engagements held in Kyiv, Oslo and St. Petersburg, with the objective of reaching a comprehensive and sustainable peace agreement, as per reports .
The diplomatic initiative comes amid continued Russian military operations across Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian strikes has hit a humanitarian site, leaving 26 people dead, with several victims reportedly trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue operations are also facing difficulties due to Russian drone attacks in the affected area, which cited military official Mykhailo Semikin.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy reminded that Ukraine has intelligence suggesting Russia is preparing another large-scale attack targeting critical energy and logistics infrastructure.
In his statement, the Ukrainian president expressed concern that the international community's attention could shift towards the upcoming US midterm elections, potentially reducing the focus on the situation in Ukraine.
He also highlighted Ukraine's difficulties in securing sufficient air-defence capabilities, particularly Patriot missile systems, amid continued Russian attacks.
Meanwhile, a localised ceasefire in a Russian-occupied Ukrainian town, reportedly brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump, ended on Sunday.
As there are talks about fresh peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv the attacks continue displaying the realities of war . At least 31 people were killed in a Russian strike on a humanitarian aid centre in Ukraine's southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian officials said.
The attack targeted a school building in the village of Komyshuvakha, which had been converted into a shelter and humanitarian aid distribution centre .
The school had been closed to students because of its proximity to the frontline but continued to serve as a shelter and a weekly distribution point for humanitarian assistance. Residents remaining in the village gathered there every Monday to collect aid packages.
Zelenskyy said Russian forces launched the first airstrike as people were arriving to collect assistance, followed by a second strike targeting the shelter.
"The Russians struck first just as people were arriving – a few aerial bombs," Zelenskyy said in his nightly address. "Then there was a second strike – more air bombs, this time on the shelter."
According to Ukraine's emergency services, the fatalities included two rescue workers and four police officers. Five people, including two members of the rescue crew, were being treated in hospitals.
