Vedanta Aluminium emerges as India's second-largest SEZ goods exporter

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21 (UNI) Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has emerged as the country’s second-largest exporter of goods from Special Economic Zones (SEZs), with its Jharsuguda-based SEZ in Odisha contributing USD 3.5 billion in exports during 2025-26.
The company’s exports accounted for around six per cent of India’s total SEZ goods exports during the financial year, according to the latest trade figures compiled by the Export Promotion Council for EOUs & SEZs (EPCES).
The milestone assumes significance as services continue to dominate India’s SEZ export basket, accounting for more than 60 per cent of combined SEZ exports.
Vedanta Aluminium exports its products to customers in more than 60 countries, including markets across Europe, the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia. The sustained demand from these markets, many of which impose stringent quality, environmental and compliance standards, reflects the company’s ability to meet specifications required by global automotive, aerospace and industrial customers.
Commenting on the achievement, Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajesh Kumar said the milestone demonstrated the consistent quality of the company’s aluminium and its ability to meet stringent global standards.
“As India’s SEZs play an increasingly vital role in the country’s trade story, we remain committed to expanding our capabilities and contributing to the nation’s ambition of becoming a global manufacturing and export hub,” Kumar said.
The company’s export basket includes its range of primary and value-added aluminium products such as billets, wire rods, rolled products, primary foundry alloys and ingots, besides its low-carbon ‘Restora’ aluminium range.
These products cater to critical applications in the automotive, aerospace, electrical, construction and packaging sectors, as well as emerging areas such as renewable energy, electric mobility, AI infrastructure and data centres.
India’s SEZs recorded combined exports of around USD 134.4 billion in goods and services during April-December 2025. Services accounted for approximately USD 84.5 billion, or nearly 63 per cent of the total, while goods exports stood at around USD 49.9 billion, accounting for about 37 per cent.
The figures highlight the growing role of SEZs as platforms for both globally competitive services and manufacturing, with Indian metals and manufacturing companies increasingly contributing to the country’s export growth.
