Veer Gatha 6.0: 100 students to win Rs 10,000 each, schools told to set up dedicated corners

Panchkula, Sep 16 (UNI) One hundred students from Classes 3 to 12 will receive Rs 10,000 each at the national level under Veer Gatha 6.0, with CBSE asking affiliated schools across the country to hold competitions on gallantry award winners, military traditions and Indian warriors and send their best entries for the 2026-27 edition.
The Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has decided to launch Veer Gatha 6.0, according to a CBSE circular. Students can compete through poems, essays, paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations and short videos, including anchoring, storytelling and reporting of war.
The national-level “Super 100” will have 25 winners from classes 3-5, 25 from classes 6-8 and 50 from classes 9-12. The secondary category will be split equally, with 25 winners each from classes 9-10 and 11-12. Previous national-level Veer Gatha winners will not be included in this year's Super 100.
Each national winner will receive a Rs 10,000 cash prize from the Ministry of Defence and will be jointly felicitated by the Defence and Education ministries. The programme will separately select eight winners at each state/UT level and four at each district level.
With CBSE setting up a tight schedule for schools, school-level activities, virtual or face-to-face interactions with gallantry award winners will be organised up to October 4. From October 5 to October 19, schools will upload their shortlisted entries on the "MyGov portal".
Meanwhile, each school can submit four entries, including the CBSE-affiliated schools outside India, who can also participate through the online submission process.
Significantly, students in classes 3-5 can submit a poem, a 150-word paragraph, painting or drawing. Classes 6-8 have a 300-word paragraph limit and can also submit multimedia presentations or short videos. For classes 9-12, essays can run up to 750 words, in addition to poems, paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations, and videos.
Students can write about a gallantry award winner as their role model, how the memory of a braveheart who made the supreme sacrifice should be preserved, or the military strategies and indomitable spirit of Indian warriors. The circular cites Prithviraj Chauhan, King Kharavela of Kalinga, Shivaji, the warriors of the 1857 uprising, and tribal uprisings as examples.
Notably, CBSE has also asked schools to create a dedicated “Veer Gatha Corner” showcasing gallantry awardees, Samarik Parampara or military traditions, military strategies, wars and struggles of warriors, soldiers and rulers, along with students' work.
Entries will be judged on defined criteria rather than merely participation. Originality, presentation and relevance feature prominently in the evaluation framework. Essays and paragraphs exceeding the stipulated word limit by 50 words or more will incur a 2-mark deduction.
