Zelenskyy says Ukraine paused strikes on Russian refineries, accuses Moscow of ignoring Trump’s ceasefire call

Kyiv, (UNI) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that Ukraine had halted strikes on Russian oil refineries for two days following US President Donald Trump’s call for an energy ceasefire, accusing Moscow of continuing attacks on Ukrainian energy and civilian infrastructure.
“Russia did not heed the American president,” Zelenskyy said in a statement on X, adding that Russian attacks had targeted energy facilities and critical infrastructure in 19 Ukrainian regions over the two-day period.
Ukraine remained ready for reciprocal steps towards de-escalation, Zelenskyy said, but added that effective international pressure on Russia was necessary to bring an end to the fighting.
The remarks came after overnight Russian strikes killed at least four people and injured dozens across Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, a Russian strike destroyed part of a four-storey residential building, killing four people and injuring 41, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said. Rescue workers searched through the rubble overnight for survivors.
In the western Rivne region, 20 people were injured, one critically, after a strike damaged an educational building, regional Governor Oleksandr Koval said. Other attacks damaged residential buildings and medical facilities in Kyiv and the Khmelnytskyi region.
Zelenskyy said Russia had used more than 100 weapons in its attacks, including jet-powered drones, loitering munitions and ballistic missiles.
He also criticised Ukraine’s partners for failing to provide an early warning ahead of a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, saying advance intelligence on Russian missile launches was crucial to saving civilian lives.
Ukraine’s Air Force said its air defences had shot down 88 of 108 Russian drones launched overnight. It also reported five ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Bryansk region.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had struck facilities in Kyiv and the southern Mykolaiv region that it alleged were involved in supplying military cargo to Ukraine. The ministry also claimed Russian air defences had intercepted 604 Ukrainian drones across 15 Russian regions and over the Sea of Azov.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said hundreds of Ukrainian drones had headed towards the Russian capital region overnight, with dozens destroyed. Regional officials elsewhere in Russia reported damage to buildings and infrastructure, as well as injuries among emergency workers.UNI AAB
