'The Staircase' short film by students of Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College Pune wins international awards

Pune, Apr 7 (UNI) 'The Staircase - A Journey of Emotions' a 16-minute short film made by the medical students of Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College, Pune, one of the renowned medical colleges in the region, captures highly emotional stories that happen real time in the hospital.

Stories of despair, loss, hope, pain and relief revolve around 'The Staircase' which is witness to these highly charged situations, untold stories that unfold every day in a Hospital, often overlooked and forgotten. The film also sheds light on the experiences, hard work, determination and sacrifices of the medical team including doctors, nurses and other hospital staff.
Created and conceptualised by medical student Faraj Shaikh, directed by Ajay Patil, Head of Forensic Medicine along with other Resident Doctors Sagar Patil and Malhar Thorat, this highly inspirational film won international awards - Best Short Film Award at Dreamz Catcher International Film Festival 2024, Best Inspirational Film Award & Second Best Director Award at Shunyatam International Film Festival 2024, and was Officially selected at the International Kolkata Short Film Festival 2024 and Abhijaat Short Film Festival 2024.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Pune acknowledged this remarkable achievement and felicitated the team on March 30.
Ajay Patil, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department head, who directed the film, said "'The Staircase' is a poignant slice-of-life story that seeks to unravel the hidden lives and emotions of those within the hospital—situations and stories that are often overlooked or forgotten."
“This short film was made entirely by the students of the college. From scripting, all the way to the music and direction and even sweeping the sets, medical students and staff did everything,” said Sagar Patil, a resident doctor at the college who acted and co-directed the film along with Malhar Thorat.
The team credited their success to the support and motivation from Founder President of Sinhgad Institutes Prof. M. N, Navale and the entire management. “The College Director AV Bhore and Dean KB Patil helped and supported the project which received five international awards,” Sagar Patil added.
The Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College, under Sinhgad Technical Education Society is an education conglomerate comprising 85 colleges, 26 schools spread across 12 campuses in and around Pune, Solapur, Pandharpur and Mumbai in Maharashtra, with a track record of over three decades of academic excellence.
